Game Over 2025

Hadzic, Amer

Born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Amer Hadžić completed both his primary education and secondary studies at the School of Applied Arts in Sarajevo, specializing in Advertisement Graphics. In 2010, he graduated from the Department of Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, under the mentorship of Professor Salim Obralić. He earned his Master’s degree in Printmaking in 2012.

Through his artistic practice to date, Hadžić has developed a distinctive style that merges the media of classical drawing, printmaking, and painting with contemporary forms of street art, pop art, and graffiti culture. His work offers a visual reflection on the architecture of the traditional Bosnian house, while also engaging with the fusion of the old and the new. In both an artistic and documentary manner, he explores and presents Bosnia and Herzegovina’s archaic architectural heritage within the context of contemporary social trends.

At its core, his artistic practice can be described as a form of abstract storytelling. Rooted in a formal academic approach to art, my work gradually evolved into what I consider a lighthearted yet deeply existential visual epigram. I am fascinated by the interplay between presence and forgotten context—by the act of breathing new life into seemingly abandoned spaces. Through this process, “I seek to uncover and celebrate the microcosms of silent, unspoken heroes, blending narratives of living urban environments with fragments of beauty and personal histories.

Technically, my paintings emphasize structure and texture. I often begin with subdued, earthy palettes, layering wax and oil-stick drawings to accentuate key visual elements. With each work, I move toward bolder and more expressive color relationships while maintaining visual balance. My compositions remain slightly abstract, allowing narrative elements to surface through carefully constructed focal points. I build my surfaces in layers, culminating in a final gesture—often a graffiti mark, inscription, or illustrative intervention.

Drawing forms the foundation of my visual language, informed by my background in printmaking. I frequently incorporate wall-repair materials and textured elements to create illusionistic depth and subtle relief. This physicality enhances the spatial dimension of the work without compromising nuance or detail.

Ultimately, this approach allows me to tell stories—unexpected, deeply rooted, and often overlooked—of the city as a living organism, while remaining faithful to the artistic and visual principles that guide me as a painter and visual artist.”
