In Manaus, Brazil, in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, where the mighty Amazon River meets a city grappling with deforestation, pollution, and drought, a new art exhibition seeks to explore a universal theme: Adaptation. Featuring the work of US-based art collective the Artnauts, Adaptation reflects on the ways humanity navigates challenge–both environmental and societal–in a world facing global impacts of climate change. Survival through adaptation is a fundamental mechanism for life, allowing us to alter our course, recalibrate, innovate, and engage in dialogue towards redemption in the face of crisis.

Why Manaus? Our communities evolve to meet the demands of our uncertain future, both in Manaus and in the United States. In the face of persistent devastation of the habitat, nature and humanity are crying out for restoration. It takes creative thought to address such a pressing issue and the Artnauts offer intuitive concepts through their art to encourage divergent thinking across all experiences of adaptation.

In partnership with LA Galeria, the US-based art collective, the Artnauts, will open a new exhibition in Bogota, Colombia, to engage in dialogues of change that remind us that what we have in common is more than what separates us. The exhibition, (Dis)Place, features work by Artnauts artists, along with fifteen Colombian artists, and explores how we collectively and individually define our sense of place–or sense of being out of place–both in our geographic location and in our communities. Displacement occurs worldwide; millions of people are being displaced due to conflict, violence, disaster, poverty and environmental issues. As part of the human experience as individuals, we experience psychological and physical displacement from shifting societal norms and states of well-being.

Why Bogota? The Colombian Civil War had profound social, political, economic, and cultural consequences for the country. Government forces, left-wing guerilla groups, paramilitary groups, and drug cartels left human destruction in their path with over 260,000 deaths and millions displaced, especially affecting rural communities and indigenous people. Challenges remain as Colombia rebuilds while the country is still experiencing generational trauma.
