Biography
Dr. George Rivera received his doctorate degree in Sociology from the State University of New York where he studied the Sociology of Art. Dr. Rivera is presently a professor in the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Colorado at Boulder (USA) and is head of Integrated Arts. He is an artist, art critic, and a curator. He has published articles in national and international journals, chapters in books published in Mexico, Palestine, Spain, the United States. He recently published Globalocational Art: The Artnauts in Palestine (Bethlehem: Diyar Publisher, 2017). In addition, he recently published a book of poetry entitled The Bones of My Brother & Other Poems (Sarajevo: Medunarodni Center Za Mir, 2019). Dr. Rivera has had exhibitions in Bosnia and Herzegonvnia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Korea, Mexico, Palestine, Peru, Russia, Spain, the United States, and Uganda. His catalogues have included essays by Suzi Gablik, Shirfa Goldman, Lucy R. Lippard, Susan Hoyt Platt, and Linda Weintraub. He received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts from the State of Colorado. He is a Fulbright Scholar and his life’s work is archived in the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Rivera is one of the founding members of Artnauts which began in 1996.
