devieux, ketty

Biography
Ketty Devieux’ artistic pursuit has always been a lone wandering in her inner self from which a body of works ritualistically threaded, intuitively stained, emerge as an hymn to the fragility, and finitude of the human condition. The shapes and palette in her abstractions always inform on the artist inner turmoil and struggles.

Her journey birthed out twenty five years ago out of a vision, while daydreaming in an afternoon of self-questioning in her law office. Disillusioned and feeling hopeless, she envisioned herself transported into a peaceful hideout amid brushes and paints, letting her creative self flow freely. What was at the time just a dream, where she would often retreat in order to escape the arid and soul-less nature of the legal world, became reality after leaving her homeland and making a complete transition from an attorney to an artist. She then devoted herself to her lifelong passion, engaging in a Fine Arts academic pursuit as well as immersing herself in diverse art scenes (from Latin America/ Rio de Janeiro, Asia/Hong Kong, to the United States/Denver) and diverse mediums (from canvas to fiber, paper, wood).

Between 2013 and 2019, she participated in regional Art fairs in Asia, (Hong Kong) and solo or group shows in Denver, Colorado. She enjoys volunteer works: as a tutor (Reading Partners Program at Dora Moore School) or as a mentor for disadvantaged kids in Haiti, Bogota and Rio de Janeiro.

Her transition from law to art is the ‘regenerative process’ of the spiritual journey she needed to engage in to survive “in exile”. Exile from self, exile from her physical homeland. Her whole being was transformed while uncovering her potential as an artist, and engaging in unsuspected experiments and discoveries. The journey still goes on with its quests, doubts, frustrations, but always pulsating and radiating in the fullness of life.
